Small Business Owners Beware of the Pitfalls to the Office Romance

As small business owner do you allow your employees to date each other? Have you ever stopped to consider the pitfalls or legal issues that can arise by allowing an office romance? What guidelines you should have in place?

Today many people are working longer hours while building their careers. I often hear there is not time to get out and meet people. Statistics show that a large percent of people do date their coworkers. However, let’s discuss the pitfall of the office romance from the view of the employer or business owner.

Pitfalls/Liability to the Business Owner
1. Sexual Harassment – if one person out ranks the other and the relationship ends the person who feels hurt or violated may file a lawsuit on the grounds he or she was sexually harassed. This may be his or her attempt to get even, even the score or ease a bruised ego. It is not good for the business as your money will be tied up defending your business.

2. Hostile Work Environment-if one of the parties involved is or becomes a supervisor over the other now junior person the junior person may claim there is a hostile work environment when he or she is reprimanded or given an unpleasant task or project. Other employees who witness the office romance may also feel slighted and trigger a lawsuit or complaint.
3. Favoritism-the other employees may begin to feel that favoritism is taking place whether real or imagined. This may rear its ugly head when one of the parties involved in the romance is promoted or given time off.

4. Blackmail – now I know you think this may only happen in a Lifetime movie but sometimes people who are jilted seek revenge. They may have a sex tape or video or photos that could cause embarrassment or harm to the other person and seek to exhort money from the person.

5. Ruined Reputation-not only do those employees who engage in an office romance risk ruining their reputation but they run the risk of ruining the reputation of the business. Scandal can spread like wild fire.

Free Restaurant Schedule Template

A free restaurant schedule template may seem unreliable or inauthentic, but they are a cheap way of avoiding needless spending. If you are a struggling restaurateur, then your may appreciate using such restaurant templates to create your employee shift schedules, daily cleaning schedules, and table reservation schedules.

Known for their irregular work schedules, restaurants continually change employee shifts to meet the needs of a demanding public. Within a day, lunch and dinner are the busiest hours, and during these times, a restaurant has the most number of employees waiting tables, handling the cash register, and staffing the kitchen. A good employee shift schedule decreases the stress of managing restaurant staff and increases productivity of your employees.

The use of a free restaurant schedule template for shift planning, however, presumes a paper schedule, which many experienced restaurant managers deem time consuming. A restaurant template is only valuable to restaurant managers and owners who may lack extra funds to pay for a subscription to an online service, such as HotSchedules, ShiftPlanning or TimeForge.

Both online and traditional methods consider the following factors when scheduling work shifts: employee abilities and skills, anticipated sales, individual work habits, food preparation, employee availability, individual work requests, certifications required for handling alcohol, and overall labor costs. The manager needs the request book and availability sheets to match each employee to a specific shift schedule.

No matter what option budding restaurateurs take, employee scheduling is a very important aspect of restaurant management because it controls labor costs and reduces employee turnover. It also streamlines workflow systematically; thus, reducing operating costs and increasing employee productivity.

Aside from employee scheduling, a free restaurant schedule template also finds itself an invaluable tool in setting up daily or weekly cleaning schedules in a bustling restaurant business. Cleaning and maintenance procedures often require specific steps because of the machines and the chemicals used. For example, cleaning a fully equipped restaurant kitchen with large ovens, dishwashers and a variety of kitchen utensils follows safety procedures to guard against employee accidents and damage to the equipment.

In another area of restaurant operations, such as table reservations and event bookings, the use of a free restaurant schedule template could prove useful, especially during peak seasons when the volume of customers increase and more special occasions happen than in any other month.

Giant Power Shovels of the Mid 1900s

The dimensions of a power shovel far exceed those of any front shovel. The machine with a large shovel would always need a base heavy enough for balance.

Bucyrus International, Incorporated built one of the giant machines of the 1960s. Its Bucyrus Erie 3850B was specifically built for the Peabody Coal Company. The dimensions of a shovel for the Peabody Coal – River King Surface Mine can be assumed to fall under the super class. Its overall height of more than 200 feet alone makes the machine a towering workforce. The most productive shovel ever built by Bucyrus Erie has a boom length of 200 feet and an overall weight of 9,350 tons. Its 140 cubic yard (107 cubic meters) bucket is capable of removing 44 million cubic yards of overburden a year. The “River King” began operations in 1964. It was scrapped in 1992.

The Marion Power Shovel Company also built a behemoth about a decade earlier. The dimensions of a power shovel like the Marion 5760 supported a 150 feet long boom and a 65 cubic yard (50 cubic meter) bucket. It had a crawler measuring 23 feet long and seven feet high. The 2,750 ton machine, known as the “Mountaineer,” pioneered the center pintle passenger elevator. The elevators could carry as many as three passengers. The 4,650 horsepowered vehicle began work in 1955. It was able to remove 100 ton bites of earth and rock before it ended work for the Hanna Coal Company in 1979. The first stripper to feature the knee-action-crowd system was scrapped in 1989.

The dimensions of a power shovel remained in the super large class during the middle 1900s. Bucyrus brought forth giants such as the 15,000 ton Marion 6360 or “The Captain” of 1965 and the 9,338 ton Marion 5960 or “Big Digger” of 1969. Bucyrus competed with its 6,850 ton Bucyrus Erie 1950B, known as the “Gem of Egypt,” and its 7,200 ton twin, Bucyrus Erie 1950B or the “Silver Spade.”

In 1998, Bucyrus International bought its rival, the Marion Power Shovel Company. One of the union’s largest electric rope shovel is the 495HR2. The dimensions of a power shovel weighing 3,040,670 pounds (1,379,225 kilograms) makes it possible for a payload of 120 tons (109 tonnes). The machine has a dipper capacity payload of 40 to 80 cubic yards (30.6 to 61.2 cubic meters), a dumping height of 33 feet (10.05 meters), and cutting height of 60 feet 3 inches (18.4 meters). The machine moves on track shoes sizes up to 140 inches(356 centimeters).

Hiring a Career Coach Can Help You Find a New Job

A Career Coach is an expert in the job market and will help you avoid many of the errors that people make when they are seeking new employment. This means you will be able to get back into a job more quickly than those following a do it yourself route. Career Coaches also help people in employment to consider their career options and either move to a role that gives more satisfaction, or to obtain the promotion that is desired. This article focuses on how career coaching can help you get a new role.

Being out of work can be an extremely stressful experience and the support of someone who is committed to you finding a new role may well be invaluable. If you have not had to look for new employment for some time a Career Coach offers the support of someone who does understand the best way to get back into work quickly. When choosing a Coach to work with it is recommended that you have at least one meeting to check that the Coach is someone you can relate to and feel you can work with. Most professional Career Coaches will in any case offer this facility for free. When you meet the Coach ask about his/her approach and ask if it would be possible to speak to a previous client. Most Coaches will be happy to put you in touch with someone they have worked with.

A Career Coach should offer a range of services dependent on the needs and career goals of the client. Here I describe the steps and stages that a typical career coaching engagement may include;

  • Coaching goals- the objectives for the coaching, type of new role desired, timescale
  • A career review- to ascertain strengths, motivations, energisers and drains at work. Where career fits as a part of other aspects of life, such as family and other interests
  • Creating an impactful CV- producing a CV that will ensure invitations for interview. Detailing what you offer to a potential employer and key achievements with quantifiable results
  • Marketing campaign- agreeing a plan for self-marketing and the percentage of time spent with agencies, advertised jobs and networking. Effective networking is crucial and some estimate that around 80% of roles are filled through this route. Sources of information and research resources

Tips on Moving to Another Country for Work

In the wake of improvements in communications, the world has become a smaller place. If you are sitting in the middle of New York City, you can as easily talk to someone in the busy city of Tokyo as if he is your next door neighbor.

You would also find that it has become easy for people to go from one place to another regardless of the time or distance. Local commutes are fast and easy. The idea of Phileas Fogg taking Eighty days to circumnavigate the world might be preposterous in Jules Verne’s time but now it would just take a person a couple of days before they can circumnavigate the world in a mere commercial flight.

With all these changes, it makes us global citizens. Experts are needed all over the world and these very experts can be hired from everywhere. An agriculture consultant from the Philippines can easily be asked to move to Japan for a job. Significant parts of the population of shanghai are expatriates from other countries.

When a job calls, you answer, especially when you have to provide for your family. The painful part of it is when that call does come you might need to pick up everything you own and board a plane to this new country.

No matter who you are, you need to prepare for a big change like a move to another country. This is a serious decision that can change a great deal about your life. Don’t you think it deserves a little bit of preparation?

One of the most important things to consider when moving to another country is the financial aspect of the move. Do you have enough money saved to pay for the tickets and pay for the place you are staying in? If you are leaving people behind that are important to you, you also need to take in consideration their welfare. Will they have enough cash to go about their day to day activities?

When you start working for your new employer overseas, you also need to send money to your family. You must do your homework as to what is the cheapest and fastest ways to send money. There are several ways you can send money. Few of the most common include PayPal, Federal Express and bank transfers. Some foreign banks open branches in different countries to allow their expatriate customer to deposit to their banks. Check out some local banks to see if they have available
